Oh Nigeria, land of promise, land of pain,  

Where the sun rises on beauty, yet sets on despair,  

Where the echoes of laughter are drowned by the rain,  

Of tears shed in silence, of burdens hard to bear.  

 

Once, your fields were golden with harvest’s yield,  

Your streets alive with the hum of life’s song,  

But now, shadows creep across your shield,  . . .
